Inspiration Monday
I really admire Brandon Stanton. Never thought I could admire a complete stranger this much. He takes photography to a whole new level. A human level and it's beautiful. It's not like what he's doing has never been done before--there have been countless photographers before him doing interviews, sharing people’s stories, and even helping to raise money for those people. But what Brandon's doing is unique because the way he tells a person's story, you can hear that person in the words. They're there. You can feel them and you can sympathize.
I showed my stepdad my Humans of New York: Stories book and it was the first time I'd shared something with him that had him hooked after a single page. That's how you know you've got something special. When it reaches someone no one else could reach, that's how you know that what you've got is really something.
Recently, I found out that one of Brandon's books, Humans, was on sale for $7 when it was normally $35. I couldn't resist. I bought a copy. It's funny because I'd actually just returned this book to the library about a week ago. I didn't get to read it as much as I'd wanted--that's the rub when you have young kids. I feel really lucky. I got a great deal on a great book. Brandon is truly an inspiration. I hope my photography can do good work like he's doing.
